![]() Doc Span & Ross Williams Playing 7:00~8:00 on Stage 2 The Rare Recordings album is a natural progression of the duo’s 20-year musical and personal relationship that developed in Queensland out of a love for the music. The duo plays powerful down home blues deeply rooted in the Chicago and Mississippi styles that represent Span and Williams respective upbringings. Their instinctive blues chemistry and enduring friendship prompts wild, fun and enthusiastic performances. Ross’ mellifluous voice, articulate down home blues guitar, and the pair's rowdy, personable, original songs combine with Doc’s raspy voice and passionate, blues seasoned, full-toned harmonica for an engaging performance that entertains both the blues novice and the seasoned listener. Ross also adds foot percussion on selected songs in the sets that entices the dancers in the house. Highly celebrated and world traveled with many festival appearances under their belts, Span and Williams debut album, The Last Train, released in September 1995, received much critical acclaim. It was a Sunnie award winning Acoustic Album for Best Blues Recording. Rare Recordings continues in the same traditional vein upholding the tradition of the legendary Jelly Roll Kings with four of their originals as well as songs by Roy Bookbinder, Bob Dylan, Tony Jo White. “Doc Span and Ross Williams are like Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee with even more balls” A fan made the comment.
