![]() The Hipshooters Playing 11:00pm~12:00am on Stage 2 Blues Rock with an edge. Formed in 1993 in Auckland, New Zealand, they then migrated to Brisbane in 1995 where they ripped up the blues live scene. Original members Anton Tipi Elkington on lead guitar and vocals and bass man Billy Williams were joined by Australian drummer John Forbes in 2000. Using the music of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan as a catalyst, the band developed an eclectic style of blues, rock, funk and jazz. Upbeat original material mixes it up with popular standards and highly charged rhythm and blues. Rejuvenated & fresh from time out for family & creative brainstorming, the Hipshooters are touring again with crowd pulling high energy entertainment. There’s a jolt of Texas blues, stinging guitar solos with solid rock. How can something be so smooth & gravelly & fiery all at the same time? They are a tight powerhouse band, with a stage presence that can’t be ignored. Anton fires up the lead guitar to a virtual avalanche of sound, while Billy on bass evokes a city-sized generator and with John on percussion, they thrash it all together. The Hipshooters are a dynamic 3-Piece, made up of Anton Elkington on guitars and vocals, Billy Williams on bass, and a very solid John Forbes on drums. After moving to Brisbane in 1995, they became firmly established by regularly playing at all the major blues festivals, and releasing three Independently produced CD's. They have also picked up two Blues Awards in Australia for Best Band and Best Song. The band continue to play to fantastic responses at many of the major Australian music festivals including Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival, Woodford Music Festival, Yagubi Multicultural, Narooma Blues Festival and the Gympie Muster on many occasions. They have supported the late Jimmy Rogers, Long John Baldry and the Bondi Cigars. "The Hipshooters follow exactly the official Dr. Branson recipe for a truly outstanding three piece band, i.e., make sure you have a very talented bass player and allow him the freedom to display his skills. Billy Williams is simply put, one of the best, and he and Elkington play extremely well together. Their sound at times is somewhat jazzy, other times very much blues/rock, but always enjoyable. ..." Tom Branson www.bluesrockers.ws Billy Williams I've been a musician all my life and have been surrounded by many gifted and talented people. I started playing in night clubs in 1968 and have continued through to today. Just to see people enjoying themselves through music and being able to contribute to that will always be incredibly satisfying. I have been playing bass in The Hipshooters since Anton Elkington and I started the band in '92. The fun and joy from the music we create has never wavered and I pray it never will.
