Belle Du Berry and David Lewis – Quizz
Selling out some of the world’s top venues including a 17,000-seat Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, French songbird Belle Du Berry and Australian multi-instrumentalist David Lewis will perform their acclaimed blend of classic French cabaret and American jazz for the first time in Brisbane at the Judith Wright Centre on Friday 3 September 2010.
Direct from a 40-date tour of France, Belle Du Berry and David Lewis will play music from their latest release, Quizz, which marks the return to the duo format for the two artists, says French singer Belle Du Berry.
“We wanted to write songs as a duo again, as we did when we first met at the Cabaret Sauvage in Paris in '94, and during the early part of Paris Combo's career,” says Belle Du Berry.
“When you are in a group you have to try and find the common denominator of its members - here we wanted to explore new directions and ideas. The lyrics deal with more intimate issues such as the place of women in society, and cultural and language differences. We describe Quizz as a game, a question or a riddle; it's a challenge.”
Belle Du Berry and David Lewis have been performing together for more than ten years as members of renowned band Paris Combo.
While taking a holiday from the combo, Belle Du Berry and David Lewis are continuing their performing and songwriting collaboration, first releasing Quizz in September 2009.
Joining the duo on stage will be Denis Hénault-Parizel on bass and guitar, and Rémy Kaprielan on drums.
For one night only Belle Du Berry and David Lewis will perform at the Judith Wright Centre on the final leg of their upcoming nine-date Australian tour, following shows at Darwin Festival and the Melbourne Recital Centre.
