Ben Kweller Australian Tour Ben Kweller returns to Australia this October for a national tour!
Singer/Songwriter, Ben Kweller was born in San Francisco, CA in 1981. Kweller was exposed to music at a very early age. By his teenage years, Kweller had released two albums and EP with his band Radish, not beginning his solo career until the age of 19. His heartland hooks and folksy flourishes made fans out of several artists, and Kweller soon found himself touring with the likes of Juliana Hatfield, Guster, Kristin Hersh, and Evan Dando.
Since then, Ben Kweller has released a four full length albums with 2009's Changing Horses embracing a more country style, employing a pedal steel guitarist and furthering the songwriter's musical experimentation. Beginning with his first record, Sha Sha, released in 2002, Kweller’s albums have always been stylistically restless, moving from indie rock to ballads to anti-folk to melodic rock, often from song to song. As influences, he has cited artists ranging from Buddy Holly, to Sonic Youth, Pavement, the Beatles and Bob Dylan.
Joining Ben Kweller on East Coast dates will be Long Beach, CA band Delta Spirit. Delta Spirit caught our attention with their 2008 debut Ode to Sunshine, and now they’ve released their follow-up, titled History From Below. The album, a collection of songs mostly written on the road, was produced by My Morning Jacket keyboardist Bo Koster and Eli Thomson.
This will be Delta Spirit’s second tour to Australia having previously supported Cold War Kids. Delta Spirit is deemed the perfect concoction of American rock, unequivocally southern soul and a heart that has west coast folk written all over it. Matthew Vasquez’s freight train voice and poignant lyrics lead an extremely skilled group of musicians with a force of sonic momentum that shows no signs of slowing.
