Danny Widdicombe Dominoes Album
Launch Tour
After touring the country singing and playing guitar in his band The
Wilson Pickers and for the likes of Bernard Fanning and Tim Rogers,
Danny has finished recording his sophomore solo album “Dominoes”.
“Dominoes” is what you might call “cosmic cowboy music” or modern
folk, but these titles don’t give the full picture. “Cannonball” is
like a mix of Leonard Cohen and Sufjan Stevens, “My Desires” has all
the angst and urgency of R.L. Burnside, “No Place to Hide” is like a
menagerie of the English countryside (dedicated to English sculptor
Andy Goldsworthy) and “Give Me Just One More Chance” takes you back to
the time when swinging, folk / jazz, 78 records were spinning on
portable gramophones at summer picnics all over New Orleans. But all
these styles fit together so neatly, with Danny’s voice and virtuosic
guitar lines threading cohesiveness throughout the album.
In late 2006 Danny released his debut solo album “The Transplant Tapes”
which is an audio photo album of Danny’s monumental recovery from a
life threatening bone marrow transplant. Rather than re-live the pain
of his battle, Danny has tempered the music to reflect his own positive
attitude to life with soothing acoustic tones and heart on the sleeve
lyrics delivered with conviction, warmth and honesty. Like a soundtrack
to a very personal film, the varying musical styles on the album
combine to create this cohesive story of a healing soul.
