![]() Dinosaur Designs Exhibition In recognition of the Gallery’s ongoing commitment to contemporary design, Australia’s Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy of Dinosaur Designs have been commissioned to produce a new body of work for GoMA’s fifth anniversary. It will be one of their largest and most dazzling projects to date, consisting of a number of large platters that will be displayed in the Foyer Cabinet, GoMA. Dinosaur Designs is renowned for their distinctive resin jewellery and home wares, which evoke the colours and forms of the Australian landscape. They are recognised as one of the country’s most successful design companies, with their own stores here and abroad, and as a thriving international exporter. Queensland Art Gallery Director Tony Ellwood said the commission recognised the Gallery of Modern Art’s ongoing commitment to contemporary design since opening in December 2006. ‘Designers Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy of Dinosaur Designs have created the stunning, new series and their largest works to date, to be displayed at GoMA from October 15 to March 25, 2012,’ Mr Ellwood said. ‘We are thrilled that one of the most visible, successful and inspiring design teams in the country with a distinctively Australian design vocabulary has created this dynamic installation for GoMA’s foyer cabinet. ‘Audiences will enter GoMA and encounter eight large, disc-shaped resin forms in a dazzling array of colours, each one measuring 1.2 metres in diameter. ‘This must-see commission recognises the important place contemporary design holds in an art museum of the twenty-first century. Mr Ellwood said the commissioning of the technically ambitious works demonstrated the Gallery’s programming commitment to contemporary design. ‘It follows contemporary design exhibitions including Place Makers: Contemporary Queensland Architects (2008), Easton Pearson (2009), Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones (2010), from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and Valentino, Retrospective: Past/Present/Future (2010) from Les Arts DŽcoratifs, Paris,’ he said. ‘Over 25 years Dinosaur Designs has forged an important place in the national art and design community, not only through their longevity and popularity but through their use of colour and the distinctively Australian character of their work. ‘We are thrilled to be presenting this major new display as part of a program of exhibitions. They include: Matisse: Drawing Life (December 3 – March 4, 2012), Yayoi Kusama: Look Now, See Forever (November 19 – March 11, 2012) Ten Years of Contemporary Art: The James C Sourris, AM Collection (November 12 – February 19, 2012) and Pip & Pop: we miss you magic land! (November 26 – March 4, 2012), to mark the Gallery of Modern Art’s fifth anniversary milestone.’ Dinosaur Designs Exhibition Venue: GoMA Dates: 15/10/11–25/03/12 Official Site: www.qag.qld.gov.au |
