Mumford & Sons
London’s rising folk rock stars Mumford & Sons have announced a headline side-show in Sydney in addition to their upcoming Laneway Festival appearances. Secret Sounds proudly present Mumford & Sons at the Oxford Art Factory, Sydney on Wednesday, February 3rd.
The quartet are known for their energized live performances, taking over a farm outside London for their album launch party in the UK. Too long has the folk moniker held connotations of stagnant shoe-gazing, Mumford & Sons “break your heart whilst making you dance for joy”.
“…we want to dance, clap and sing, leaving a thousand cheers in our wake. That’s the beauty of Mumford and Sons; they exhaust every consideration of a broken heart and bring it back to life beautifully.” NME September 2009
Mumford & Sons’ heart-wrenching album “Sigh No More” debuted in the Top 5 of the ARIA charts and has spent two weeks in the Top 10. The single ‘Little Lion Man’ jumped straight into the Top 20 of the ARIA charts and has remained there for four weeks. The album pushed out Wolfmother and the ‘New Moon’ Soundtrack to stay at the top of the iTunes chart last week.
“Mumford & Sons have clearly set themselves an ambitious feat and succeeded, delivering an intricate, stunning album as gorgeous as it is big in sound, as stupid as it is clever and as clever as it is awesome, all delivered with a certain majesty achieved by an ear for detail and a gusto for genuine performance.” ****1/2 AOTW Time Off
Australia’s love affair with the London purveyors of “nu-folk” began with a song called ‘Little Lion Man’. Man-crushes, love-lorn sighs and total infatuation ensued as Australia embraces the new folk with open arms. Now it’s time to meet the band of our dreams in the flesh and dance with abandon. Given the band’s meteoric rise to the top of the Australian consciousness, this will be a rare opportunity to catch them in an intimate environment.
