Planet: Harry James Angus and
Dheeraj Shrestha Project
Leading
singer-songwriter and trumpet player, Harry James Angus, teams up with
tabla maestro Dheeraj Shrestha to present an intoxicating concert of
Indo-Jazz.
Supported by an ensemble of Melbourne and Brisbane based Nepalese
and Indian musicians, this project was born when Harry and Dheeraj
successfully collaborated at the recent Melbourne International Jazz
Festival.
Harry is well known as one of the lead vocalists and trumpet
player of multi-platinum band, The Cat Empire and ARIA nominated,
Jackson Jackson and is a jazz exponent of exceptional versatility and
nuance. In this exciting project, Harry will play the guitar unplugged,
using vocal techniques to improvise to the exciting rhythmic
compositions of Dheeraj Shrestha.
Nepalese born and Brisbane-based Dheeraj Shrestha has established
himself internationally as one of the world’s finest tabla
percussionists. He has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Smithsonian
Institute and at WOMADelaide alongside Lior and Jeff Lang.
This unique one-night performance features two of Australia’s finest
musicians blending the free form of jazz with melodic Indian
rhythms. It is not to be missed.
Please join us after the show for FREE world music on the Turbine Platform co-presented with BEMAC and 4EB.
Post show performers: Rahim Zullah and guests (classical Indian)
Planet is a dedicated world music and dance programme.
This project has received financial assistance from the Queensland
