Queensland Poetry Festival 2011

In a celebration of all things poetry, QPF is set to dazzle and delight with a weekend of FREE spoken word performances throughout the festival.

QPF is Australia’s finest annual literary event and has an established reputation for excellence amongst audiences and artists worldwide. With an annual three-day festival, spoken in one strange word, QPF also manages the Arts Queensland Val Vallis and Thomas Shapcott poetry prizes as well as the Arts Queensland Poet-in-Residence program and partners on programs such as the annual Riverbend Poetry Series.

Now in its 15th year, QPF brings you poetic voices from over 40 local, national, and international artists, in a two-day feast of poetic and musical sessions that will challenge, inspire, and leave you wanting more. Australia’s premier festival for all things poetry, the annual extravaganza that is Queensland Poetry Festival is not to be missed.

Opening night celebrations kick off at 6.30pm, and continue into the night with Of Rhythm and Rapture featuring Sandra Thibodeaux (NT), Sawako Nakayasu (Japan), and Jacob Polley (UK). We will also be treated to a feature musical set from the delightful Kate Fagan! Tickets to Of Rhythm and Rapture start at $15 and are available now through the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts.

The rest of the weekend features a stellar line up of poets from around the country and overseas, as well as some incredible local talent. Andy White (VIC) will be launching his latest collection Stolen Moments, returning favourite Matt Hetherington will again delight Queensland audiences, Kevin Gillam is coming over from WA to grace the stage, local poets Paul Sherman, Julie Beveridge and Ross Clark will be reading in a tribute to the late and great Queensland poet David Rowbotham, and the Saturday night showcase A Million Bright Things will be back in force, and is not to be missed! And that is just the beginning.

Queensland Writers Festival is supported by its partners Arts Queensland, Australia Council for the Arts, Queensland Writers Centre, Brisbane City Council, and the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts.
