Southbound Festival 2011

Three Full Days, Three Nights Camping, Over 60 Acts, One Festival!

The summer festival season is so close we can taste it. And it tastes delicious! The prime course on this festival menu is Southbound, WA’s only superb and sustainable music, camping and arts festival. Proudly presented by triple j and returning to Busselton from the 1st – 3rd January, Southbound is the perfect way to bring in the new year.

We are salivating over the line up and are very very excited to bring you this audible feast. From lands far away are those pioneers of the electro‐rock movement, Klaxons, bringing us new material, and New Yorkers Interpol, presenting their hotly anticipated 4th album. Joining them, are slow‐burning kings, The National, and set to take it up a notch, all with new material to share are The Rapture, Hot Hot Heat and Cold War Kids.

Aussie stalwarts The Living End and WA’s own Eskimo Joe will hit the stage, along with hot favourites Angus & Julia Stone, Birds of Tokyo, Tame Impala and Bliss n Eso. The legendary Paul Kelly will also grace the Southbound stage for the first time.

Then, we can reminisce with some old favourites, with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (as seen in the recent biopic The Runaways) returning to our shores to show us how much she really loves rock n roll, as well as lyrical legends of rhyme, Public Enemy who will perform their classic album, “Fear of a Black Planet” in full.

We’re pleased as punch to bring you some hot new talent from overseas including New York duo Sleigh Bells, San Fransicanites The Soft Pack, indie sweethearts The Morning Benders, Welsh wailer, Marina & the Diamonds, young upstarts Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, kiwi favourite Ladyhawke, pop hot property Jamaica and Jose Gonzales’ new project, Junip.

Fastracking their way to the top of the Aussie charts are Children Collide, Dan Sultan, The Middle East, The Beautiful Girls and Ash Grunwald. And we better not forget some of the other homegrown fruits ripening at an amazing rate. Heading to Busselton to soak up the rays are Cloud Control, Washington, Boy & Bear, Sally Seltmann, Dan Kelly, Jonathan Boulet, Last Dinosaurs and Tim & Jean. But wait, there’s more... Let’s add The Bamboos, Big Scary, Tijuana Cartel and World’s End Press to the list.

Much like fairy bread, we have some acts that are sure to get the party started. Peaches will dazzle us with her highly regarded DJ extravaganza, and Baio (Vampire Weekend) will also spin some tunes. They’ll be joined by A‐Trak, Yacht Club DJs, Edan the Dee‐Jay and Sampology to keep us dancing the days and nights away.

Catering to all audiences, we’re proud to bring to you beatboxer extraordinaire Beardyman, the comical stylings of The Cuban Brothers, blues master Charlie Parr, electro‐popsters, The Cool Kids plus Daara J, Muscles and Jamaica.

We are extremely happy to announce that Southbound 2011 will have more local (not to forget, breaking and talented) artists than ever before, including The Chevelles, Pond, The Chemist, The Novocaines, Scotch of St James, Grace Woodroofe, Ghost Hotel, The Silents, Split Seconds, Carus Thompson, The Growl, 6’s & 7’s and Boom! Bap! Pow!

We’ll have more exciting news coming your way soon, including information about our arts and eco programs and basecamp updates. In 2011, we’re also looking forward to introducing a new comedy program, which will keep the chuckles and good times rolling.
Presale Registration is now open and closes at midnight on 26th August. We highly suggest that you register to secure your tickets and more importantly, your preferred ticket type once presale opens.
