![]() Emerge Project’s TOOT Fiesta It’s time for Emerge Project’s annual 10-minute play fiesta and we’re sure you’ll give us 10/10 for this year’s play selections! In August 2009, Emerge Project sent out a call to local Brisbane writers to submit their best original 10-minute plays. We received a total of 36 entries which were reviewed by a reading committee. Ten were selected for the showcase production in December. We don’t often toot our horn but once in a while, we think we are entitled to do so – especially with our exciting line-up of plays telling stories of love, betrayal, hunger, laughter and drama … 10 writers will tell their stories in 10 minutes! The showcase production is headed once again by Artistic Director Errol Bray, with three seasoned directors Amy Ingram, Ben Cornfoot and Hayley Milner, plus a team of talented actors and stage crew. Switchboard Art’s Emerge Project develops and showcases emerging playwrights and other theatre artists in Brisbane’s performing arts scene. We provide opportunities for local writers, theatre workers and film makers to show their work at the Judith Wright Centre, with professional support from its staff. Emerge began operations in 2005. This is its fifth 10-minute play fiesta. For more info, contact emergeproject@hotmail.com or visit Facebook page www.facebook.com/pages/Emerge-Project. Flash Memory by Clem van der Weegen Not your average courtroom drama. A young woman is confronted with something unpleasant in the park. A man is charged and now faces court. What will be the verdict? Condemned by Ariella Van Luyn A girl. A room. A locked door. An argument becomes something more sinister when Kris realises she is trapped in a prison of her own making. Condemned explores the nature of power and conflict in a relationship. Darby and Joan Have Brekkie by Ti Lian-Siew Darby gets into trouble when he loses a bet and has to make brekkie for Joan. Swimming by Tom Slater A couple, in packing their apartment to move, discover things they had forgotten and remember the moments that spawned them. Swimming is a look at relationships and what it means to settle down. Kicker by Anna McGahan Charlie is having a baby, Tosca is playing the father figure, Jane is looking for better, younger sex. Nobody is satisfied but is the grass really greener on the other side? A Shoulder to Cry On by Margaret Dakin A woman struggles to find the best way to support her husband at a time of crisis. The Ferguson Famine by Sonny Clarke A hungry pigeon and no carbs in sight. Samuel the pigeon and an aggressive Seagull have had enough with the fad diet. How will they stop the Ferguson famine before they all starve to death? Lady and Bird by Claire Christian Lady and Bird love each other. Really love each other. This is precisely why they can’t be together. Morris and Max Make Some Money by Ben Cornfoot Morris and Max are best friends, they hang out at the shops. They don’t mean to be a public nuisance but things just always turn out that way. 3300 by David Brun Picking up: we all have our own methods of doing it. We all get anxious, we all feel the pressure. What happens when it feels like the whole world’s breathing down your back just to talk to that mysterious blonde? 3300 is about picking up, digging holes and staying true to your character.
