The Gutter Twins
This July Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan, two fiercely individual and
personal songwriters who have collaborated, toured and recorded
together for years under many guises, are coming to Australia together
for the first time as the Gutter Twins.
And the rumours are true, before heading north to SPLENDOUR IN THE
GRASS, they will also play two very special side shows at the York
Theatre in Sydney on Thursday 23rd and Athenaeum Theatre in Melbourne
on Friday 24th.
These unmistakably iconic frontmen have experienced true indie hero
worship before having spent the best part of twenty years between
them as members and collaborators of Screaming Trees, Afghan Whigs, The
Twilight Singers and QOTSA before savouring the success of their latest project the GUTTER TWINS.
Released last year, Saturnalia is their long-in-the-works debut that
Dulli has dubbed "the Satanic Everly Brothers." Pointedly the album
doesn’t rest on the sonic laurels of Lanegan and Dulli’s previous
accomplishments and from its inception it was intended as a leap into
the unknown. “When we actually decided to make a record, we agreed that
it should be different from anything we’ve done before” Lanegan
explains. “If something sounded like anything we’d ever done, it was
rejected,” Dulli continues. “That forced us into making a new sound.”
On stage, the GUTTER TWINS’ mutual chemistry is cemented by their
intimately raw, haunting and confessional performances. With
transcendent voices, Lanegan sings like he's rising from the dead,
Dulli like he's falling from grace. With talent as deep and
far-reaching as Dulli and Lanegan, their live shows are equally electric when in full
band mode or stripped down. If overseas tour dates are anything to go
by, fans could expect a diverse set list of crowd pleasers with songs
spanning the musical careers of the Gutter Twins, Twilight Singers,
Mark Lanegan’s solo offerings, as well as unreleased material and
covers.
Don’t miss Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan, two incredible songsmiths
coming together to perform their songs of sin, redemption, damnation
and salvation this July. Bob Dylan once said that a good song is still
good played just on an acoustic guitar – in the case of the GUTTER
TWINS, we couldn’t agree more. Tickets to these two shows are limited
and go on sale 9.00am Thursday 28th May.
