The Pineapple Queen
All she ever longed for was to be crowned the Glasshouse District’s Pineapple Queen - wearing a magnificent dress, riding on a float down the main street of Nambour, waving at an adoring crowd, and catching the eye of a handsome young man - a glamorous new life away from the confines of the farm she grew up on with her cruel father. Never in her wildest dreams did she believe it would actually come true.

‘The band led the parade and played tunes that bands usually play. The sky was bright blue. Like satin stretched across a frame. You had to shield your eyes to see her it was so bright. She waved her gloved arm, smiled and blew kisses. She was the Pineapple Queen.’

The Pineapple Queen is a darkly comic tale that is at once a poetic fable and a dance macabre.
