Vintage Barbie Exhibition

No doll outshines Barbie’s celebrity, and this year Barbie celebrates her 50th Birthday. To celebrate the Art Gallery of Western Australia has teamed with up with renowned collector Neil Taylor to showcase his vintage Barbie collection.

Inspired by the outstanding quality of Barbie produced fashion, Barbie collector Neil Taylor has been building on his vintage collection, 1959-1972/3 for more than 20 years. On display will be vintage Barbie from this period, with outfits inspired from 50s Dior new look, Jacqueline Onassis, English Mod and early hippie and prairie fashions.

The collection will include Barbie and Ken, family and friends, carry cases, and Barbie licensed products from the era. Highlights from the collection will be No.1 - 1959 first edition boxed Barbie, in mint condition, one of only two known to be of existence in Australia, as well Bild-Lilli the German cartoon character from which the original Barbie was modelled on.

Special events have been planned at the Gallery to celebrate Barbie’s 50th birthday, including a free family day where you can come dressed as your favourite Barbie and listen to story tellers. Neil Taylor will be on hand most weekends to provide free appraisals.
