Wicked – The Untold Stories of the
Witches of Oz

WICKED, the emerald extravaganza that tells the story of the two witches of Oz, is back on its broom at the Lyric Theatre, QPAC from Tuesday 25th January 2011 .  As the flooding in Brisbane and Queensland recedes, the theatrical musical event of the decade is ready to fly again.

Australian producer of WICKED, John Frost said, “After an extraordinary effort over the last two weeks by QPAC staff and volunteers working around the clock to clear the mud and get services up and running, we are delighted that the Lyric Theatre is again working and WICKED can start.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the patrons who have waited patiently for WICKED to recommence.   We will do everything in our power to make sure you see the show.  And also to our fantastic sponsors who despite suffering with their own flood issues, have continued to stand by us and helped to bring WICKED back to the stage. We thank Brisbane from the bottom of our green hearts, for such a warm (and green) welcome.”

Patrons affected by postponements from Jan 11-23 will be contacted by the company that they purchased their tickets from.  Patrons who purchased their tickets from qtix are asked to refrain from contacting qtix as lines will be congested during this time. A representative from qtix will be in contact with patrons as soon as possible regarding moving of tickets into another performance. We appreciate patrons’ patience as QPAC undertake this herculean task.

Parking remains an issue and cultural centre and riverside car parks are closed.  Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre will open their car parks for QPAC patrons.  Patrons who have pre-puchased car parking vouchers can use them at BCEC car parks.  BCEC Parks 1 and 2 only accept cash.  There are limited car parks available and patrons are encourage to use public transport or car pool.

WICKED relates the untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. WICKED tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

Currently in its 7th year on Broadway, WICKED’s four North American and four international companies have cumulatively grossed $2 billion and have been seen by 25 million people worldwide. WICKED is the winner of 35 major awards including the Grammy Award, three Tony Awards and six Helpmann Awards.

WICKED, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Academy Award-winner for Pocahontas and The Prince of Egypt) and book by Winnie Holzman (My So Called Life, Once And Again and thirtysomething), is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B Platt and David Stone, with John Frost as Australian Co-Producer.

WICKED proudly acknowledges its family of WICKED sponsors for the Brisbane season including Showbiz, Sofitel Brisbane, Channel 7, 97.3FM, Volvo Car Australia, Constellation Wines, Qantas Holidays, MAC Cosmetics.
