Windows
on Europe
Film Festival
Windows on Europe is a unique film festival which brings together award winning films from across the European Union. While screenings of European film is not unusual in Australia - thanks to the many national film festivals and screenings by the public broadcaster, SBS - Windows on Europe is unique in that it draws upon the diverse and rich cultures of Europe into the one festival.

The festival has its origins in Canberra but its popularity saw it extended last year to Sydney and Brisbane. Melbourne and Auckland have now also joined the program.

The Windows on Europe 2010 festival comprises 17 films* offering a variety of drama, thrillers, comedies, and romance. If you like films that delve into relationships intermixed with humour and drama, there are gems from France, Hungary, Sweden and Germany. There are more poignant drama offerings from Austria, Bulgaria, Belgium and the Czech Republic, while Cyprus, Spain and Greece bring a Mediterranean slant. Poland and Romania have war as a backdrop to personal relationships, while the Dutch supply a lot of romance. Portugal has history in its sights as it delves into the life of Christopher Columbus. There is also a topical powerful British drama-documentary film on the effects of climate change seen from the viewpoint of life on earth in 2055, while the Finnish documentary looks at the practicalities of life for a family trying to go green and the impact it has on each of the family members.

Windows on Europe 2010 is brought to you courtesy of the European Union Delegation and the European Union Member States in conjunction with our sponsors; Dendy Cinemas, Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), Academy Cinemas and DHL in Australia and New Zealand.

Here are some highlights of the festival:

Her best friend Simone seems happy with her own husband but her tenacious pursuit for perfection is beginning to take its toll on the marriage. Kiki is in love too, and enjoying her fling with Prince Valentijn, the most eligible prince within the Dutch royal family. Kees, an undertaker, and lifeguard Victor are in love. They intend to get married soon, but now Kees seems to be holding back. All the story-lines within this romantic comedy are somehow interlinked. But sooner or later, every character ends up meeting Jan, our hero, who, in his role of deus ex machina, sees to it that in the end love conquers all.
