boy girl wall Season Return

In April, boy girl wall was the chalk of the town… The critics raved and audiences lined up around the block for tickets. Now, due to overwhelming popular demand, Helpmann Award Nominee (Best Male Actor in a Play), Lucas Stibbard delivers a tour-de-force performance in The Escapists' smash hit show returning to La Boite for a strictly limited encore season as part of the Brisbane Festival.

This is not a love story; it's a story about love. Real love. That's to say, a million moments of misery and one good one…

Lucas Stibbard tells all…
We built this show as an experiment that responded to a specific space (the Sue Benner) with its black walls covered in all these interesting things painted black - this is all because that space was converted and retrofitted. Now the new space is a purpose built theatre and has none of that! In fact the show's original conceit includes drawing on the walls - something that is impossible in the Roundhouse at La Boite as it is a space that is played either In-the-round or as a thrust (so there's no walls!). So we all gathered and built a new design concept for the show, there are some new tricks and illusions, some new jokes and a brand new set to play on designed by Jonathon Oxlade! This show has a cast of 25 characters performed by only one man, a stick of chalk and a sock puppet!

This is not a love story, it's a story about love…and architecture…and magpies…and astronomy.

This is the story of Thom and Alethea, two neighbours in a West End apartment block, trying desperately to keep their lives from falling apart. This is also the story of the wall that stands between them, who has decided they belong together. This is a story of buses and bicycles. Of corporate wastelands and creative deserts. Of everyday life and the infinite cosmos.

Performed by Lucas Stibbard, boy girl wall is the latest comedy from the award-winning group The Escapists, creators of the 2009 Matilda Award winning Attack of the Attacking Attackers!

Contemporary, unique and exquisite, The Escapists produce adventurous high-quality performances that celebrate imagination, theatricality, and the joy of play. With a piece of chalk, minimal props, sock puppets and an overhead projector at hand, Stibbard switches between first and third person, between locations and dozens of characters, both human and inanimate, taking the audience through the evolution of man, the infinite wonder of the universe, the workplace from hell, demonic magpie attacks, a 70s disco, and cheese and pickle induced nightmares.

boy girl wall is a search for the profound in a world determined to be anything but. It is theatre at its most intimate and beautiful.
