Hollywood Classics – A Special Program
of Classic Films from Dendy Portside
A program of much loved classic films will screen at Dendy Portside monthly on a Monday at 10am and 6pm, from March 12 – July 16. Audiences will have the chance to relive and experience a selection of masterpieces from the 1930s through to the sixties, starring a herd of Hollywood heavyweights.
Launching the program is one of the most beloved movies of all time GONE WITH THE WIND, a timeless, classic tale of a love-hate romance set in the Old South during wartime. Filmed and presented on a scale not seen in modern productions, the 3 hour 44 minute historical epic film boasts an immortal cast including Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Thomas Mitchell, Barbara O'Neil.
From 1965 comes the unapologetically sweet musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Nominated for ten Academy Awards, the legendary film won five Oscars including the Best Picture and Best Director, and displaced Gone With The Wind as the highest grossing film of all-time.
Other highlights include the undisputed masterwork and quintessential statement on love and romance, CASABLANCA, boasting career-defining performances from Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman on May 14; the last great musical of the classical era MY FAIR LADY on June 18; and a Christmas in July celebration with David Lean’s DR ZHIVAGO. Clocking in at 3 hours 19 minutes, this classic will conclude the program on July 16.
