![]() Nightcafe Get ready to be swept away by a night of dancing, live music and conviviality that you won’t forget in a hurry!. Originally choreographed by Gavin Webber and dancers, with remount direction by Michelle Ryan, Nightcafe begins in a darkened nightclub before opening. Staff are cleaning, stragglers from the night before are sleeping, streamers and balloons still dangle from above, all echoes of an earlier party. As the club slowly wakes, the dancers and the band whip the stage into a chaotic frenzy – furniture flies, drinks abound and conversations flow – or is it the other way round? Drinks flowing, conversations flying and furniture going who knows where! Hailing from Townsville, Dancenorth are one of Australia’s fastest growing contemporary dance-theatre companies. They won ‘Australia’s Best Dance Ensemble’ at the 2008 Green Room Awards and were nominated in several categories at the Australian Dance Awards and the Helpmann Awards. Remarkable musicians, Waiting for Guinness, help to amp up the party atmosphere with their sumptuous and idiosyncratic blend of tortured jazz, gypsy blues, gallows humour and Balkans boogie. Since their humble beginning, busking in Sydney, the band has played major festivals across the country, from Port Fairy to Woodford as well as being invited to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and Switzerland’s International Buskers Festival. Tour managed and coordinated by the Regional Touring Office – ARTS This tour is assisted by Arts Regional Touring Service (ARTS), a Queensland Government initiative The Australian Government is proud to be associated with this tour through the national performing arts touring program, Playing Australia, which gives Australians across the country the opportunity to see some of our best performing arts. ‘This is a show that the world should see’ Townsville Bulletin Nightcafe Venue: The Powerhouse Theatre, Brisbane Dates: 04-06/11/09 Cost: $30 – $39 Official Site: www.brisbanepowerhouse.org |
