Ali G Indahouse
Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen has had a good run with his character Ali G. His successful debut on The 11 O'Clock Show lead to his own television series which has run a few seasons now. This parody about everything good in the hood has become an icon. And with that status comes the inevitable movie and with cinema's longer running time and better production values, comes more information. We get to meet his Nan and his friends, get to see what car he drives and what the hood looks like, we even get to meet his girlfriend, Me Julie!
The story line in the movie is absolutely preposterous, as it should be. Through unbelievable circumstance (a hunger strike) Ali is asked to become a member of Parliament. He quickly rises through the ranks and becomes a member of the cabinet and then becomes the Prime Minister's right hand man. Throughout these adventures there is a maximum of bad jokes about marijuana, wanking, body functions and the male and female anatomy. Its humour isn't mean spirited (unless you are a Deputy Prime Minister) and eventually proves the power in brotherhood.
This movie is crass, crude, vulgar, juvenile, ridiculous, over the top and very funny. As you can tell I loved it!

Attack the Block
The alien invasion genre has been hit particularly
hard of late with the likes of Cloverfield, District 13, Battle: Los
Angeles and Aliens vs Cowboys, each one more mediocre than the last and
culminating in the downright awful Skyline. So kudos to director, Joe
Cornish, for at least trying something a little different.
