Confessions of a Shopaholic
If ever there was a film that qualified for the title of ‘Chick Flick’, it’s Confessions of a Shopaholic. Fact is maybe a hit of estrogen with your ticket purchase might help all the males in the audience with their enjoyment of this movie going experience.
In this rom com, the lovely Isla Fisher plays a struggling writer that has an addiction to shopping. Fueled by too many credit cards and high-end shops of easy access, she has run her credit into the ground. In an accidental circumstance that could only exist in the celluloid world, she lands a job at a financial magazine and then the fun begins.
She becomes a minor celebrity with her financial advice, while at the same time being chased by debt collectors for her outstanding and long overdue credit card debt. At no point in time do you ever miss with your guess at what will happen next and the film really does rest on the slender shoulders of Mrs. Ali G. When the comedy is of the psychical nature, she mostly hits the bull’s eye but a number of the set up jokes fall a little bit flat.
Now these words must be tempered with the fact that every woman in the audience was laughing a lot more than the men, including my partner who found herself enjoying it immensely. So men go out there and give your ladies a night of mirth and look at it as taking one for the team.
