![]() Faster Would you like extra cheese with that? In the age-old popular movie conundrum of how to straddle the fine line between easy to consume escapist entertainment and something with memorable substance, Faster falls on the side of empty thrills and a paint by numbers landscape. This revenge story stars Dewayne Johnson (AKA The Rock) as the enigmatic ‘Driver’ and Billy Bob Thornton as one of the cops chasing him down. The tale revolves around a bank robbery, a set-up and not much else. There is also a superfluous storyline about a British millionaire playboy assassin played with a strange sense of detachment by Oliver Jackson-Cohen. As you would expect with any film starring the ex-pro wrestler The Rock, there is an overabundance of shots featuring his mountainous physique and a minimum amount of dialogue, which does Dewayne a bit of a disservice because he can be engaging when he opens his mouth (remember his hilarious Bring It On monologue in Be Cool?). This kind of flick is an easy to digest, empty calorie snack that will mildly entertain but leave little trace behind, just the oily residue of synthetic cheese, mmmm fake cheese movie nachos.
