G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Imagine if you gathered a room full of grade school kids (mostly boys), got them cranked up on red dye number five flavoured lollies, gave them a 200 million dollar plus budget and every computer generated tool in the toolbox and let them rip. What you would get wouldn’t be far from what emerges on the screen in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
This film is so over the top and unbelievable, it becomes hard not to laugh at almost everything up on the big screen. All of the boys are macho and buff and the girls all bust out of their tight fitting military garments. Also it’s cool to see that none of the hero girls are blondes (maybe too much like the competing toy company, Mattel’s signature product Barbie?). The ladies feature all the attributes of being blonde while sporting other hair colours, how refreshing.
To detail out the story behind the story would make this review even less based in the real world so just suffice to say it involves lots of weapons, explosions, destruction of public properties, defiance of the laws of physics and lots of cliché boy and girl action.
Reviewing this film with the proper journalistic standards seems to miss the point completely, it’s almost like this review should be written out in crayon. Just psyche yourself up on your favorite substance, go see G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Corba and laugh at the absurdity of giving so much money and artistic control to those with such juvenile powers. Attack the Block The alien invasion genre has been hit particularly
hard of late with the likes of Cloverfield, District 13, Battle: Los

Cornish, for at least trying something a little different.
