![]() The Guard The Guard takes work but it’s well worth the effort. Irish actor Brendan Gleeson does little to tone down his brogue and the accent is so thick, it takes quite a bit of effort to decipher at first. Once you get into the cadence and tone it become secondary and you can enjoy what’s on offer and there are a lot of delights available.
The film’s humour is based mostly on the clash of cultures between the two men and the film is hilarious. The tight script throws major laughs at you along with a large number of subtle moments that will keep a smile on your face the entire 96 minute running time right up to the retro block text final credits. Although small in ambition and featuring two actors that are experts at playing roles understated and naturally, The Guard is the kind of film that lasts long in the memory and rewards your cinema going effort quite nicely.
