![]() The Trip With Michael Winterbottom’s slightly askew take on the old chestnut, the buddy road trip film; The Trip succeeds by venturing into some unusual and delicious territory. By casting the film in an almost documentary style and using a mixture of the real and perceived characters of its stars, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, Winterbottom has created quite the unique cinema experience.
The film isn’t prefect as Winterbottom allows his stars to occasionally run things into the ground and some of their impersonations while being spot on, run way too long. Their Michael Caine riffing does have its moments though. With so many situational comedies being so by the book, Winterbottom should be applauded for even trying something different, that he succeeds to the degree that he does is encouraging. Overlook its slight flaws and a good time is to be had. Rob Hudson www.ifcfilms.com/films/the-trip |
