Birds Of Tokyo
Finding that fine line and then walking on its edge is an act that Birds Of Tokyo do well. Their sound brings the recognizable to mind in equal measure with sounding fresh and new.
Melodically uplifting and like all good popular music making you think you have heard it before but in reality, you really haven’t.
Laying down a lattice of instrumentation and stitching the vocals into the weave is an act that many do but few with such a strong sense of integration. Even when the tempo and mood gets turned up a notch or two, the songs still sound unified and complete. The song writing conveys a sense of energy without resorting to bombast.
The album is top heavy with radio friendly songs and the first two tracks Plans and The Saddest Thing I Know have already been given their share of airtime. However, it’s after you’ve spun the album to it conclusion a few times that you realize how strong of a work it really is.
Four albums into a trajectory that will hopefully see the band further progress, Birds Of Tokyo remain a band with an eye towards the future and one that still has the ability to entertain in the now. Rob Hudson www.birdsoftokyo.com
