Darwin Deez
It’s no surprise that the Darwin Deez single Constellations fits so seamlessly in the season finale of the resurrected Beverly Hills 90210. Frothy pop and shameless teen drama do go together don’t they? While it might have been a good marketing ploy to some, it might have also been a detrimental move to others.
If anyone dismisses this work from that tenuous association they will be missing a real jewel. This stuff absolutely crackles with pop energy and more catchy moments than any single album should rightfully possess.
Consider the insistent handclaps, the flinty guitar lines or the preponderance of words with only one syllable, this stuff really rattles around in your head. Getting the balance just right on music like this isn’t easy and to have it all sound so effortless and accessible is a masterstroke.
Far from a casual cast off, the ten songs here (plus two bonus tracks) are strong enough to keep a warm glow going during these upcoming cold months (in the Southern Hemisphere at any rate). Elsewhere in the world, it’s ultra breezy lilt with keep things interesting as well. And for a chuckle, check out Deez’s wispy mo. What’s up with that? Rob Hudson www.wearebrilliantlydifferent.com
