Gang Of Four – Content
It just doesn’t get any better than this. A pivotal band with a real history goes away for over a decade and a half and then comes back with an album every bit as contemporary, energetic and dare I say it, exciting as the output from any member of the current vanguard.
Tight, right and still filled with civic might, English post-punk band Gang Of Four have always delivered the punk energy but without any of its narcissistic self-indulgence. They also do an outstanding job of mixing up genres and easily step outside the trap of an overly simplistic musical approach.
This thing grooves like a mad man and the righteous indignation still rings true. It’s reflective of the current times and takes aim at a world that is racing towards a future of isolated indifference. They mix the message with a syncopation that is so infectious; you really groove to the doom and gloom and find some form of redemption in the pure joy of great music.
Gang Of Four have been name checked by a surprising number of bands you probably already have in your record collection. Content is an up to date way to find out the reason why. Listen to this and if you like it then run out and buy their seventies classic, Entertainment! Rob Hudson www.gangoffour.co.uk
