Iron Kim Style
Charging out of the gate with a wicked groove that pulses like the veins in the neck of a despot leader while he fucks with the world at large, Iron Kim Style in stark contrast, simmers with anything but reckless abandon.
The ten tracks here require volume; attention and multiple visits to let them fully burrow into your psyche. Bassist Ryan Berg lays down a musical gumbo that is equal parts spice, foundation and complexity and no matter how far out the rest of the players travel, Berg keeps things on the boil.
Guitarist Dennis Rea has the kind of facility to play anything but the taste to pick his moment and he slices through the proceedings here with just the right amount of bravado and presence while trumpeter Bill Jones channels Dewey and lays out until it’s his time to shine. Percussionist Jay Jaskot is also a master of adding those infrequent accents that consistently surprise and illuminate.
If Messer Jong-il ever wants a house band with the grandiosity to equal his self-penned title of Supreme Leader of the Republic, he should give the boys a call.
