Brown Bird – Mexico City

“Baby raised an empire, raised it in my mind.” So begins Brown Bird by Brisbane band, Mexico City. These Conquistadores of cosmic crunch have toned down the country rock flourishes of earlier works and found a sound that excels at mixing grit with the right amount of glamour. The kind of glamour like the hung over mid-morning sun reflected in the sweat sheen of well-worn black leather road gear.

Yes, this is ideal road trip music and will make the miles fly by while you use the volume knob of your car’s stereo with more emphasis than you apply to the accelerator pedal. The dynamics are steady and error free and these boys know how to apply just the right condiments to this sonic stew for maximum flavour. The grinding guitars and earthy vocals also make a perfect match for the unpretentious lyrical takes on a life relatable to all.

Far from the smog bowl soup of that land locked home of nine million souls, this Mexico City offers a refreshing and life-reaffirming blend of personal freedoms tempered with the realities of trying to relate to the challenges offered by that same freedom.

From the mournful to the serene to the outraged, Brown Bird never sounds like anything less than authentic. Feel free to give them a test drive at http://www.myspace.com/mexicocitytheband
