![]() Pink – Funhouse Tour Edition It seems easy to dismiss most of the solo female pop acts as insubstantial or prefabricated if all you do is look on the surface of things. Their often-erratic behavior is what seems to create the headlines and this can be misleading because there are a number of female performers that are true to their self-styled vision and work really hard at what they do. Pink is just such a performer and this tour edition re-release of her album Funhouse is a case in point. It features 14 audio tracks of the kind of arresting pop that she makes as her musical statement but in difference to a number of her fellow divas, Pink gets involved as a song writer in all the tracks and actually has something to say about a number of topics. This can range from the pot shots she takes at off and on husband Carey Hart in So What to the self-empowered stance she takes on a track like I Don’t Believe You. It isn’t Steinbeck but it shows spunk. It’s in the supplemental DVD material that the amount of effort she puts into her craft becomes more apparent. Her energy and versatility in the live footage (shot in Sydney, Australia) shows someone that takes the live stage very seriously. No lip-syncing of hiding behind a bevy of taunt gyrating bodies, she’s out front and in people’s faces. Seeing this live footage, it’s not surprising she sold out so many nights on her tour here. Parents that fear for their children’s musical requests for the holidays can have a bit less apprehension if Pink is on that list (although some of the visuals in the music videos might need more than a bit of explaining) because the work ethic on display as well as a body that comes from hard work and not the surgeon’s scalpel is not that bad of a role model, a young teen could do far worse.
