The Kissaway Trail – Sleep Mountain

Living in such close proximity to so many different cultures and countries must surly have its benefits as does the accessibility of a rainbow of different bands and sounds in this thing we call a global village. Danish band, The Kissaway Trail revel in this multiculturalism in almost every way on Sleep Mountain.

Take a track like Painter as an example; it starts with a plaintive dual vocal, backed by drums of doom. Then adds to the mix some strange sounds that mimic mutant horn charts before it resolves into an almost chamber music feel with a sole strummed acoustic guitar and an almost a Capella vocal. The next track New York layers enough vocal energy to rival the crowd’s enthusiasm at the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and like those helium filled recreations that brings the crowds out in droves, elevates things substantially.

Elsewhere the vocal mannerisms provide an anchor of identifiable alt-ness while the instrumentation does its best to surprise with the inclusion of many strange but wonderful sounds. This is a band that is unafraid of throwing something different in the mix.

Even at the height of its unearthly instrumentation and arrangement, these songs are held together by the human voice. The song’s messages are also inclusive and their musings on love and loss bring things down to earth. Visit many musical points on the globe without leaving the comfort of your lounge room.
