The War On Drugs – Slave Ambient

In the 200 channels of shit on television, 24-hour/minute/second news cycle, hyper culture world that we presently reside in, we need The War On Drugs. No, not the unwinnable war that America pumps billions into but the band, man, the band!

Musical maven Adam Granduciel continues with the moniker The War On Drugs and their second long player hits the sweet spot. Many have called this band’s output true Americana and if that refers to the mad mash up at play here, the description fits. It stops at so many points upon the musical landscape; it mirrors a cross-country drive across the wide 48. Just when the current surrounds start to sink in you are whisked off to another state, both figuratively and literally!

While in lesser hands this procession of divergent elements would lead to a bland but confusing mix but Granduciel more than knows the source material, he feels it and that connection shows. The shifting shuffles are often times caressed by the embrace of a warm human presence.

Summer there, winter here, music this reaffirming works regardless of latitude and longitude or seasonal variance.
