Point of Disconnect
ECM
Let talk about ECM, no, not that American Jazz label for tofu eating shoe gazers but the Sydney band called Electronic Counter Measure. These shredders have just released an EP called Point Of Disconnect and it’s a real burner. Fronted by Amanda Rogers, who throws off the shackles of genderfication in regards to metal and lets rip with throat searing intensity and a stage presence that leaves most of those with outdoor plumbing to shame. I just had to get in touch and get some comments from this incendiary inamorata.
Short Cake
“This opening track is intense and energetic. Starting with just Gavin Leon’s jarring opening guitar riff, the remainder of the song was jammed out with the entire band. Lyrically the song is reminiscent of childhood memories, remembering we all have that cheeky little child inside us waiting to bust out and rejuvenate our lives, even in the smallest way. To smile for no reason, to smile is enough.”
Carry Me
“A stand-out track from its monster odd time opening groove, to the dynamic verses and the powerful and emotional melodic choruses. Even before the recording, this song was a live favourite. In the studio we took the opportunity to explore extra vocal parts and expand the beautiful keyboard harmonies of Andrew Brusentsev in the chorus. This song is about searching for inner strength, a call to family and friends that sometimes we all run into difficult times.”
Breaking Point
“One of the first songs we wrote in the six months we took off to write and prepare for this EP. It was completely written in the rehearsal studio with no preconceived ideas. It was a truly wonderful moment where everything came together quickly. Inspiration is drawn from moments in life when your support and strength from others is broken or worn down, leaving you empty but heart broken. The intensity of the song builds up to the explosive end riff that exemplifies the breaking point.”
Strange
“This track is about the amount of people who float in and out of our lives, without really knowing them and how we still choose to judge them without any real knowledge except for our own assumptions, good or bad! We were very conscious of dynamics with this song, from the guitar hook lined verses and big choruses all supported throughout by emotive keyboard lines and vocal melody.
Breathe “Driven by the relentless thumping drum grooves of Hayden Chee and tough bass lines of Chris Barazza, this song leaves little time to breathe. The feel of the song is one of gasping for air to save your life. Running away from suffocating situations. Fear of your last earthly breath, hence the screaming of “Air!” at the end of the song.”
True To Feel
“Lyrically this song is about allowing yourself to truly connect with all your emotions and feelings without fear and without thinking too much. Allowing it to come straight from the heart with no consequence, letting go completely, totally unafraid of expressing ones self even if we were to be perceived as a little insane. True to Feel was one of the last songs we wrote prior to recording the EP and is testament to a band that is growing together.”
