Women In Docs
One of the best things about living in Brisbane is getting to see musical acts such as Women In Docs. Their exuberance, humour and charm make our river city a better place. They have a new EP out and I asked band members Chanel Lucas and Roz Pappalardo for a few comments. Here in what I got.
Nashville “…when a whole lot of changes occur in your life in what seems like one minute you’ve just found out you’re going overseas with your band to perform in a huge ‘scary’ music industry conference (south by south west), you’re boyfriend doesn’t seem to like you anymore, you haven’t got your family xmas presents yet and to top it all off, your flatmate is moving out and you’ve got to find a new place to live, pronto. Yes, it’s all bound to come out in a song and here it is folks!”
Little Patch Of Green
“….Patch Of Green is a reflection on the innocent victims of war the children, the mothers, the families, the soldiers who don’t even know what they’re doing there. It’s also a tribute to Brisbane based author, Nick Earls (Zig Zag St, Bachelor St) who contributes much time and effort to an aid organization called ‘War Child’. ‘War Child’ contributes funds to every day things that we in a western world may take for granted ie; parks, fresh water and hospitals.”
Drive
“Drive was written during a Women In Docs tour to amazing Cooktown (Far North Queensland). We are Far North Queensland girls and relish the opportunity to ‘go home’ and play a concert or festival. We really tried to capture the moment in that town the mango trees, where the rainforest meets the sea. It’s a beautiful place and worthy of sentiment.”
Times Like These
“Spending 9 months out of every 12 on the road touring, whilst so much fun, can take its toll. This song is a tribute to those things that you miss when you’re on the road and miles from home, months from getting there and missing someone close to you.”
Wanderer “Wanderer is a cheeky country swagger around my life. This song is the answer I give my parents every time they ask with grave concern "what are you going to do with your life?" I answer, "I’m already doing it!" I get back in the car, write another song and play another show on this circus that I already call my life!”
Thanks Girls!
